PARENT MEETING NOTES
*The following are some of the highlights from the parent meeting on September 1st.

  • Current financial situation was explained
  • Field improvements were discussed. Year around field maintenance options and possible connections to help with batting cage construction are on the table.
  • Spring Trip will be finalized at a later date, but most likely will be in a shorter duration that last year.
  • JV game updates needed for this spring....new JV head coach (when hired) will be instructed to keep these up to date this year.
  • Fan apparel options were presented -- new company will be in place soon.
  • Field work day might become a semi-monthly option, as requested by some of the parents at the meeting.  The new Vikings "MOB" (Mothers Of Baseball) will be involved in many areas, while the dad group discussed Game Day Crew and Field Crew possibilities for this season.
  • College Recruiting information outlined -- new section of site will help
  • Matching grants might be an option from Cabarrus County Parks & Rec -- we will check into it soon.
  • Looking into a new laptop or a used one (donation already available) for field usage this year.
  • Fundraising was discussed.  Honorary plaques, Midland Magic and Movie Night @ Bethel possibilities were talked about.  Other fundraisers were presented --- good collection of options.
  • Fall Ball talked about --- would need a coach to join the Metro league.
  •

**If you have other issues or concerns, please contact Coach Knight.  Thanks to all the parents that took the time to show up for this 1st ever fall parent meeting!

METRO LEAGUE TEAM?

I have recently been contacted by David Darwin at Core Athletic about Central having a team in the Metro league.  I also have had a few players interested.  I can't coach this team, so we'll need volunteers to help.
Mr. Corzine, Mr. Hartsell and Mr. Furr coached our boys in the Metro this summer (thanks for that, guys!), so they can tell you more about the league, but it certainly would be beneficial for our guys to do it and most of the area teams will be in this league.

We will talk about it at our meeting on Wednesday, September 1st, but please contact Coach Knight if you are an interested player or a potential volunteer coach.  Thanks.

PRESEASON UPDATE

Preseason NOTES:

  • The 1st meeting of the school year for baseball players will be on Wednesday, September 1st from 2:15 - 3 pm in Coach Knight's room (210).  This meeting will help to see who is interested in fall workouts and to outline program expectations and improvements that will be implemented during the fall session.  All players should plan to attend --- any fall athletes should email coach or stop by ASAP to get information. 8-man workout groups will be determined later that week based on grade level and meeting attendance....so don't miss it!

  • The 1st OPEN FIELD of the year will follow the meeting on September 1st from 3:15 - 5:15 pm.  ALL players (both returning players and those new to Central) are encouraged to attend.  The field, bullpen and batting cages will be open for use during this time.  Open Field will be held every TUESDAY (after this 1st session) from September 7th through the entire month of October.

  • During the OPEN FIELD on the 1st, there will be an OPTIONAL parent meeting in the clubhouse at the field for all parents interested in providing input concerning the state of the program.  This meeting (which will go from 3:15 to approximately 4:15 pm) is open to any parent of a player in grades 9-12 that would like to help us make positive changes that will help the Vikings Baseball program head in the right direction during the 2011 season.  Topics for discussion will include field improvements, the spring trip, website changes, fan apparel options and field work days, to name a few.  Come ready to give your input to help this be the best season yet for Vikings Baseball!

There is much more to come, so bookmark www.ccvikingsbaseball.com on your computer and check the site often for all information pertaining to the Vikings Baseball program!

And, to all freshmen players and their parents....WELCOME TO THE VIKINGS BASEBALL FAMILY!          Coach Knight

Bats For Next Season -- MUST READ!!!

One of six new rules changes by the National Federation of State High School Associations Baseball Rules Committee forbids the use of composite bats until they can meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard. The changes, which were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors, will take effect with the 2010-11 school year. Link for article is below:
